Internet Broker Lombard

Date: 12/24/96

Dean Witter, Discover & Co. said it agreed to buy
Lombard Brokerage Inc. , the discount securities
firm that offers trading via the Internet and the
telephone. Terms weren't disclosed. Dean Witter is
the No. 3 brokerage house in terms of brokers. The
company said it made the purchase to ''participate in
the rapidly growing field of electronic commerce.''
