John, to redirect a little, I'm not suggesting SFE "project" the value of their non-public holdings, only that they might come out with a valuation model of their own. I don't ever expect it to happen BTW.

They *know* what the companies are worth -- if they had to give another $5 million to any one of them, they would be able to assess the then-current market value in very little time and determine FMV for the shares they're buying. Not that they'd want to publicly disclose any of this, but they could offer a middle ground whereby they said this "basket of companies" in our view is currently worth $XX. Of course they'd never do that cause it would leave them legally vulnerable for comitting to a value that might not be true later.
