If it is an October Surprise, I don't know why apologists for Netanyahu like Safire would be against it. It is certainly Bibi's advantage right now to strike a deal because Clinton is desperate for a foreign policy victory and Bibi is the lynchpin. Israel could not possibly be in a better position than today to get the Administration to back down on its demands for more of the West Bank. So what's your point or Safire's point?
