Hiram - You seem like the one to ask this pretty basic question.

I really like HLIT, but could they be for cable what Ciena has become for telecom?

I mean, HLIT might have the lead, but how hard would it be for Lucent or Nortel or Tellabs or Cisco to duplicate their products. This is what happened to Ciena and I'm afraid that if/when the market really heats up, new competitors will enter the fray.

I want to find out if it is more like CIEN or more like UNPH - their expertise in lasers gives them some insulation from competition and commoditization.

One bonus of the cable companies vs. the RBOCs is that they seem more aggressive in spending on upgrades.
