Stephen,

A lot of what Schrader is saying here could be interpreted as corroboration for my earlier post # 1409 at...

...concerning the imminent dwindling market for big ticket items like PBXs and carrier end office switches, which may be accounting already for the decline in current revenues and future projections of some of the larger cap telco vendors.

His free voice add-ons is already happening in the larger enterprises, but as I point out in a recent CSCO thread here in SI, this may be the result of some cost and price shifting and some nifty marketing maneuvers, and does not take into account point solution costs.

I still dispel the notion that voice will be free, or any freer than any other service demanding of quality assurance measures, for some time to come. Attempts will be made by grand marketers to create this spectre of perception, we can be sure, but when the rubber hits the road, there will be price gradients along the lines of quality and assurance in place, and I feel quite certain about that. But who knows how this will pan out for sure? I certainly don't, but I have some good ideas. And I'll say it again... I've never seen so many people trying so hard to create a product which, they claim, has no value proposition behind it.

Just a few thoughts before going off to work...

Best Regards, Frank Coluccio
