jbe,I guess I didn't make myself clear."What else can we do" meant what else can our government do? Yes we must accept the real world at face value.We can't force a nuclear power to behave as we can force a weaker one to bend to our will.What would you have us do ignore oppression in all cases because we are powerless in some cases? It is easy to suggest sanctions or other non military solutions but the repercussions of these actions are not clear. They may in the end be a catalyst for disaster.Hard as it may be to look the other way in some cases,but because the possible consequences are so unthinkable in a nuclear world we must error on the side of caution.The situation as you describe it is ugly indeed but often this is the way the world is .We can some times do little to change it.And that is a fact we must learn to accept!<<the old distinction between the " bad" [their] dictators and the "good" [our] dictators appears to be breaking down>> very well said.
