Steve -
Are the comparisons in market share and volumes shipped that are made between CPQ and Dell for 2q98 using CPQ's sales into the channel rather than out?

Yes, I think I have discussed this in some detail on both the Dell and CPQ threads. Those numbers reflect CPQ's sales into the channel. Factoring the reduction in channel inventory, CPQ sales out (sales to customers) were about twice the reported numbers for affected products (i.e. the stuff that was in the channel). So all of the 2Q sales and share numbers were skewed way down for CPQ and somewhat down for IBM and HP, which artificially inflated Dell's share numbers. So although Dell's sales were real, their share was not, and both CPQ's sales and share were under-reported (viewed as sales to the end user). I think that the 3Q and 4Q numbers will reflect the reverse shift.
