<<Yes most lies are made for personal gain of some kind .Surely BC's were. He wasn't trying to save some ones life with his lies only his political skin. Not good thats for sure. But again and again these lies were not an impeachable offense.IMO that is.Many of you disagree thats what makes horse racing>>

Even though we disagree on the damage to society caused by Clinton lying under oath, I respect the way you have handled yourself during this discussion and want to validate what you say here - you have been very consistent and forthcoming in your position that the particular act we are discussing (lying to whoever to hide the Monica affair) is not an impeachable offense.

I think where most of the disagreement comes (at least with me) is in what the effects on society are of Clinton's actions(the lying, not the affair). You've heard it before so I won't make a speech here, but I see the lying as an attack on our system of laws and justice by a man that thinks he should be above the law. I see it as part of a long pattern of lying, manipulation and abuses. You obviously look at this from a different perspective.

This massive gulf between us (and apparently that split is similar to the national dilemma with this situation) is why I am in favor of in depth, open impeachment hearings. I want to see the hearings cover Travelgate, Whitewater, etc., too. That way, whatever happens, no one can moan and whine that Clinton got away with something (if he is not impeached) or that he was railroaded (if he is impeached). We need Watergate-style hearings with Clinton well-represented in order to achieve closure. Otherwise, we are looking at many years of ever-increasing tension and divisiveness in this country.
