Hi j_b; About that Vindication of Moral Liberty... My guess is that this is another suggestion that since Clinton was only trying to disguise a vice, rather than to hide a real crime, we should forgive Clinton for everything he did to disguise a simple vice, (cigars).

Hey! That implies that anything you do to achieve an honorable end should be fair game, right? So, why not publicly lie about the character and morals of ex-lovers? Why not hire thugs to scare the crap out of them if they won't play ball? It's for the good of the Republic, why can't everybody see that? Why not make your administration so slimy that everybody with an ounce of integrity (latest is Mike McCurry) abandons you? (My guess is that Janet Reno is next. I'd be faking fainting spells if I were here too.) Why not use the FBI to look up dirt on your political opponents? Hey, the ends justifies the means, doesn't it?
