No one here is passing judgment on Clinton's affair.
I can't quite agree with you there. j_b.
Perhaps people are not actually "passing judgment" on Clinton's affair, but many seem obsessed with the details of the affair.
Of course, you are right that the legal issue, strictly speaking, is not about sex, but about lying/perjury. But it seems to me that it was still That Old Demon Sex that got the folks (at least the menfolks) interested...and keeps them interested. For example, just take a gander at all the gross-out sex "humor" on the SI Clinton threads, all the tee-hee-hee sniggering about cigars, "cum", etc.
Just finished listening to the Canadian evening news show ("As It Happens"). Among other things, it aired an interview with the manager of a Seattle radio station, which recently declared itself a Clinton-free zone (that is, a Clinton-Monica-Hillary-Linda-Ken free zone). Seems the station's call-in talk shows were getting inundated with esclating, polarizing invective and with tasteless Clinton/Lewinsky sex jokes, which, according to the manager, "were not even funny even more" {if they ever were). Meanwhile, his regular listeners(especially the female contingent)were getting so turned off that they asked the station to drop ALL coverage (even in newscasts) of ANYTHING and EVERYTHING relating to the scandal.
In any event, I get the feeling sometimes that the only reason some people care about the lying is precisely BECAUSE it was about sex...(As distinct from those people who DON'T care about the lying because it was about sex.)
