Amelio's on Powell, two blocks north of Broadway. Valet parking available. It's an old line S.F. restaurant that's retained all the good. I used to think it a bit pricey, but after reading the previous notes...I guess it isn't. Excellent Italian cuisine, waiters that truly know their trade, and an intimate, but elegant milieu.

And if you like pot roast, try Fior D'Italia's. It's on Union, off Columbus.

I used to love the bouillabaisse at Castagnola's (Fisherman's Wharf), and the veal saltimboca at Swiss Louis (when it was on Broadway, now it's at Pier 39), but after each had their respective fires, they never seemed to be the same. I gave up on them a few years ago, but they are probably worth a try again. They weren't bad, just not as good as they had been.

OT
If you're ever in Carson City, Nevada, try the veal saltimboca (or anything else) at Silvana's Italian Restaurant on Carson St. (the main drag).
