From what I've seen when the market was sane, if you came in where the analysts predicted, even if it was negative (i.e., a loss), they bought your shares. If the profit was greater than expected or the loss less than what was predicted, they bought LOTS of your shares. If you had the audacity to be worse than predicted, the stock flushed itself down the drain, even if said company had a profit, just less than what the analysts predicted.

I suppose part of this is the fact that the analysts like to think they know what is going on. They don't mind being pleasantly suprised, but heaven help you if you cause them to have a stomach ache.
