SALV has an instant blood-based test (the saliva test is still in the works as far as I know). CMTR has a blood-based send-by-mail test, which is the only type of home test currently accepted by the FDA. CMTR has a invested in a complete lab facility for this reason.

I believe CMTR could convert their test to an instant one with very little effort (all such a test has to do is look for HIV antibodies); but by developing a mail-in test, they can generate revenues on the home HIV test in the US while the FDA debates whether we are responsible enough not to jump off bridges should we test positive.

There are a lot of politics around AIDS testing. So far, the politically correct method is to have some sort of mediator between the testee and the results of the test. Should that change, there are lots of companies waiting in the wings with instant home-based tests. SALV is one of many such companies with such a test.

Of course, there is a big market for instant tests outside the US. SALV, TRIBY, and other companies with instant tests should do just fine in Asia and Europe over the next few years until the FDA grants us the responsibility for our own health.
