According to the latest rig count (and the latest doggie-gram),
offshore-data.com
loosbrock.com

the GOM continues to be the weakest area in the world for utilization % and dayrate stability. I believe there are other weakening areas (Venezuela, SE Asia ??) but Europe and the Mediterranean remain strong.

Seems to me that the best place to be is outside the gulf or in the deepwater, or preferably both. Looking at this rig location chart:
oilonline.com

the known deepwater drillers have the following GOM/outside GOM breakdown for rig location:

------------GOM----------OUTSIDE
NE ------------16-------------31
FLC------------21------------22
SDC-------------0------------26
SEDCO(SLB)--3------------42
RIG-------------7-------------21
DO-------------29------------16

The thing we don't know is how current is this data and what is the rig utilization % by company. The ideal data would be rig utilization % by company and rig location by company and water depth by location. Anyone know where to find it ?

John
