I think Joe is one of the best features on CNBC. If you look at his profile you can see he received a masters in molecular biology from MIT. No matter how he comes off, this is one high powered guy. As a physician, I am often impressed at how easily he explains complex scientific developements in the biotech companies with such clarity. As someone who often has to explain complex biological concepts to my co workers such as nurses, hospital administrators and others, I can tell you that you have to know the subject extremely well in order to explain it. I have often wondered with the high powered background that Joe has, why he chose the path he did. I wonder if the guy burned out. I guess, because I burned out, that is why I identify with him. Joe impresses me as the kind of guy who takes life as it comes and who doesn't compromise a whole lot. He comes across to me as having nothing left to prove. Recently I attended a funeral and one of the people who was there asked me who could eulogize me if I died. I said Joe Kernan. They protested and said, "but he doesn't even know you!".
I replied that I was sure that no matter what Joe said it would be timely, relevant, funny and to the point.
