Interesting.

But I certainly never defended how the Russians handled the matter. I merely defended the American decision to treat it as an internal Russian matter. And one better left largely alone, given the larger issues at sake for America, in maintaining and increasing good relations with the Russians.

My point was never to suggest it was a "fair fight", or a righteous battle on the Russian side.
