The bus is identical to the Alpha bus, and I understand that you will be able to upgrade a K7 board to Alpha CPU.

I don't understand why this would be such a viable business solution for AMD unless they have some sort of deal going on with Compaq regarding Alpha. For example, since HP and Intel are both developing the IA-64 line of processors, HP has every reason to provide some sort of upgrade path for their current PA-RISC customers. Unless AMD wants to move into the Alpha market later on, I don't see why AMD would want their Slot A platform to be upgradable to an Alpha.
