Oh, I agree he has split too many word game hairs. Please understand that I don't like the extent to which he thought he could play out his games. It does disturb me.

I also think it's a license he doesn't extend towards abuse of power, etc.

Somewhat similar behavior may well exist in the campaign finance laws. If bad enough that would bother me more. The trouble is those laws are an abolute mess. Everybody violates their spirit massively, and you have to in the big stakes games to stay in the game.

So again we probably are down to the search for technical violations that are vastly less important than all sorts of massive amounts of violations of the general intent of the law that both sides engage in.
And those gotacha games are not ones I favor.

The basic problem of course is that the Supreme Court rulings on free poltical speech in this area make intelligent limitation and regulation of the area extremely challenging. And maybe impossible, without a Const. Amendment. Which I'm not sure I favor. I don't really have the answers here. Haven't thought about it enough, for one thing. Even if I had, there would be no guarantees. <gg>

Now some things in the area are clear. Bribery doesn't cut it at all. Knowingly taking money from foreign nationals also seems to be pretty clearly and bright line illegal, and not merely nigglingly technically so.

So prove those things and I may well support giving your favorite President an exit ticket.
