That's quite the creative defense, even if it lacks credibility. I suppose though, there is some possibility there. I would think then, that the Democrats were actually the ones that bugged their own convention, so they could blame it on the Republicans. "Archibald Cox made me do it!"

Why didn't Nixon think of that? I guess it's because he wasn't comfortable with outrageous lies, unless you count the humble "I am not a crook".
