I don't think most people are really aware enough of all the risks and benefits of investing to be put in charge of their entire retirement money, Michael. It takes special knowledge and experience to invest well, and a good amount of luck. That is why I support tax-sheltered investing, but don't believe it should all be 401K funds. Also, even though most companies offer SOME choices, they are often not very good ones. I read some statistics in an investing magazine recently on that. Sorry, but I don't remember now which one. I also believe that for the many senior citizens who have disabilities, a lot of failures, or financial downturns in their lives, we are as a society cruel enough to watch them starve to death in their dotage. So we would end up bailing them out, anyway. Why not just do it with the system we already have?
