AMD wins because they can take advantge of the ALpha SMP, Server, Board design expertise.

But what's in it for AMD if they market Slot A's upgradeability to Alpha? Certainly AMD wouldn't want to enter the lucrative server and workstation market only to lose it to Alpha later on, unless AMD has some secret Alpha plans in the future.

I still think AMD is taking advantage of the Alpha platform only to avoid having to create their own platform. I don't think AMD will support a possible upgrade to Alpha, even if it could be done in theory.
