Stephen, this is the note from the MCRR board that Gary was referring to.

Vertex Industries (VETX on Nasdaq Small Cap) has been mentioned by Gary in the past. The company produces and sells systems,
consisting of both hardware and software components, that are used in real-time data collection and transaction processing. The recent focus
has been on sales of systems utilizing the company's BridgeNet software.

BridgeNet was originally designed to run on DOS based PCs but was expanded to run on several UNIX based machines plus the IBM AS/400
and was recently implemented for Windows 95 and NT. One of the big advantages of BridgeNet is that it has communication network support
that will connect different software operating systems as well as different hardware platforms that are otherwise incompatible. Other networking systems generally allow simple communication links between different computer platforms. BridgeNet permits the development and writing of application software on one operating system for use on another operating system. Once a BridgeNet application program has been written, it can run on any computer hardware platform on which BridgeNet is resident. It "bridges" the gap. It also includes a development system which allows the creation of application programs by people not highly skilled as programmers.

BridgeNet is the necessary software component in several of Vertex's hardware systems. One of these is a semi-automated coin collection
system for pay public telephones. Systems have been sold to Bell Atlantic and Ameritech for use in several states. Another product is a student attendance and access control system for urban public schools which provides automatic identification of students and minimizes the entry of unauthorized persons in public schools. Over 60 systems have been sold to the New York City and Chicago Public School Systems. These products are currently being marketed to other cities and phone companies.

Recent releases of BridgeNet have included direct database access and support for radio frequency (wireless) handheld terminals. A lot of
time and effort was spent on this development which should begin to pay off soon. Also, the addition of Windows 95 and Windows NT as
supported operating systems is fairly recent so there is much room to grow there. The company is currently profitable and the latest press
release indicates that acceptance of BridgeNet is growing. There are 5.1M shares outstanding with about a third of those held by officers and directors and very little long term debt. Stock is currently trading at just over a dollar. Vertex now has a home page at vetx.com. It is not complete but does have some info available.
