A dream, a hope, a vision of future joy---cooler weather..
It's still in the 90s here. It was Homecoming at the high school this weekend. I remember when football meant heavy sweaters on crisp nights; tonight Ammo left for the game in shorts and a t-shirt. CW, who had a date, looked more presentable in khakis and a golf shirt but was complaining about sweating. THe sky was heavy, the humidity high.
AN hour after they left Dan came in and informed me that there were tornado warnings for our area. Ammo came in a little after that. The game had been called because of heavy wind and lightning. THe rain was torrential when it hit. We kept hearing sirens and started worrying about CW, so we spent the evening driving around in this terrible storm looking for his car and following all the sirens. It's really not as neurotic as it sounds; I like storms and was bored anyway. When we got back there was a message on the machine that said:

Mom?(static) lightningwindraincoolNicole and I (static)argoschillout--sprecken caveat Voltaire Fehlentscheidung Ohio OK?

He came in at midnight. They had been at a restaurant watching the storm most of the night. I made him listen to his message; he understood every word.
Yesterday morning I was making coffee and looking out at the back yard which looked funny. FInally I realized that it was because a giant section of the fence had relocated, there were huge limbs of trees all around and the deck furniture had been attractively rearranged upside down in bushes and in the pool. We spent yesterday cleaning up-we think maybe we got hit by a small tornado because the fence posts were literally snapped off.

Ah-for those chilly autumn football nights...
