In my thinking, dial-up modems will sooner or later be reduced to the status of my old 1200 baud Commodore 64 accessory.

5) I say they announce cable/DSL modems late this year or early next.

The whole xDSL scene, last I looked, was a tangled morass of incompatibilities, foot dragging and greed on the part of the RBOCS. The cable outfits seem to have their act a bit more together, especially the Cox/@home partnership, and yes the Cox people would rather you supplied your own cable modem (they'll charge you a hefty $20/month over the $29.95 basic monthly charges to rent you one.)

Would you care to speculate on how the ZOOM road map might best develop in these directions a year or two out?
