Ann,

Your old bookmarks are probably there but are in a different directory that your new Navigator doesn't see. From the Windoze Explorer, click Start/Find, and search for "bookmark.htm". You probably have more than one; your old bookmarks will probably be the largest one.

Then the question becomes what to do with them. Your old bookmark file is probably not compatible with the newest version of Navigator, which supports a personal toolbar folder. You can either import your old bookmarks en masse to your new bookmarks, or bring them in selectively. I chose the latter since I had a zillion bookmarks that I never used, and importing them kept causing the browser to crash. Here is the process I followed:

1. Locate you old bookmark.htm file.
2. Double click on it which should open it with your new Navigator.
3. Bookmark that page (you will now have a bookmark in your "new" bookmarks that points to your old bookmarks file).
4. Select Bookmarks/Edit,and move the link to your Personal Toolbar Folder.
5. Now you can easily click on the button for your old bookmark file. You can now click on any "old" bookmark and rebookmark it into your "new" bookmarks, and then place in the appropriate folder. You can have any number of cascading dropdown menus, as well as single click buttons for favorite sites, such as SI. :-)

I've been doing this for about 3 months, and have activated perhaps on 10% of my old bookmarks. I look at it as a spring cleaning that was way overdue.

Please note on #5 that you don't actually have to visit the old bookmarks to activate them in your new bookmarks. If you know you want that bookmark, you can right-click on it and select Add Bookmark from the pop-up menu. It's best to do a bunch of those and then go into the bookmark editor and move them around where you want them.
