Paul, I agree with Slider that the flexible pipe in the BP tundra test sounds like the stuff from Coflexip. A combination of new technologies like this and favorable policies like those of the current state government should keep Alaska in oil production for many, many years.

FWIW, I took a vacation trip to ANWR (Arctic National Wildlife Refuge) a dozen years ago. Flew into a lake in the foothills SW of Kaktovik. Hiked for miles along an outcrop with a few black seams hinting at hydrocarbons to my untrained eye. Also caught a mess of arctic charr and lake trout, hiked up the highest mountain in the Brooks Range, and saw a wolverine sniff noses with a bull caribou.
