I think you are essentially right.

There has been some talk of AMD manufacturing Alpha's under license from DEC but no deal has been announced and does seem unlikely. Samsung is an alpha manufacturer and could also be a player in pushing the K7/Alpha relationship.

I think AMD does gain from the Alpha infrastructure and they also gain by having Compaq pushing the K7.

I think AMD and Compaq will both win.

That's the best way in any deal.
