Gotta Save da Pineapples....Philippines expects $261 mln from IMF this month
WASHINGTON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Philippine Finance Minister Edgardo Espiritu said on Sunday he expected the International Monetary Fund to release a $261 million payment from Manila's $1.4 billion standby loan later this month.

Espiritu, in Washington to attend annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, told Reuters he expected the IMF board to discuss the payment around October 21 and the money would then be handed over.

The Philippines prolonged an IMF credit last year to help shield its economy from the impact of a wave of devaluations across Asia.

Ministers said at the time they did not intend to use the money, but they changed their minds last month after the financial crisis on emerging markets deepened.

An economic review conducted at that time forecast 1.5 percent growth in gross national product this year, picking up to 4.1 percent next year. The two sides had earlier expected growth of 2-3 percent this year.
