Brazil's Cardoso Has 50.5% Votes - Official, 11% Tallied Dow Jones Newswires BRASILIA -- With 11% of the vote in, Brazil's President Fernando Henrique Cardoso has just over half of the votes in the presidential election, giving him a first round win, the Electoral Court said Sunday. Cardoso has 50.5% of the valid votes, below the 56% calculated in the Ibope exit poll released after voting ended at 2000 GMT. Analysts consider exit polls to be more representative than early results. Runner-up Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the leftist Workers' Party (PT) had 35.3% of the votes already tallied at 2305 GMT. Ibope's poll said Lula had 29% of the votes. An Electoral Court official told Dow Jones Newswires that no reliable trend in the voting results is expected before midnight local time, or 0300 GMT Monday.
