It's time and past time that Hoover was rehabilitated. Everyone was nuts all at once.

But every so often the crowd wants a human sacrifice, and looking back from 1933 Hoover's pronouncements seemed awfully stupid.

I guess leaders can do better--i.e. Churchill, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, sweat, and tears.' If Hoover had said right away, "Things are bad, and they are going to get worse before they get better," he couldn't have done worse than lose the election, which he did anyway.

So even pols should tell it like it is.

Off-topic. Has it occurred to anyone to point out what a bargain the Starr Report is? At only $40 million, it has provided America with almost the same fun as a war or a moon landing, and at a tiny fraction of the cost.
