The article's point about the hi-tech companies is mostly valid but not for the reasons that he mentions (I consider those minor reasons). A lot of research has shown that deflationary times bring with them great scientific innovations (i.e. good technological progress) as well as great structural innovations (i.e. new business paradigms). What you want to do is to be alert as to how these changes are taking shape. Companies that stay on top of the wave of change, will surf great distances and make a lot of money. Those who chose to hope for a change back to "normal" and insist on doing things the old way, will vanish. High tech companies have a natural edge in this environment, but not if their customers are resistant to change. You need to choose carefully.
