I agree with your point about some analysts not necessarily understanding the oil service business but you really should not knock them if you have not read the recommendations.
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter are recommending the following as
Strong Buy:-
BHI, HAL, SLB (of course), BJS, CDIS, RON, DRQ, WFT, SII, DO, ESV, FLC, GLM, MRL, SDC, NBR.
They have an Outperform Rating on UTI
They are Neutral on GW, PTEN, HMAR, TDW.
These recommendations were made by John Lavoi, Scott Soler and James Lewis of MSDW on August 27. Their message was clear as a bell " Hang in there - Valuation Appears Compelling"
