Scangraphics Unit, Tangent Imaging Systems, Announces MediaMAX Transport System
LIMERICK, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1998--
Leading the Industry in Super-Wide/Super-Thick Scanning Technology Color Reprographics Market Estimated to Generate $1 Million in Sales
During 4th Qtr.
Tangent Imaging Systems(TM), a division of Scangraphics(R), Inc., (NASDAQ:SCNG), a pioneer and leader in large format scanning and imaging software, announced today the release of MediaMAX(TM), a document transport system for Tangent's sheetfeed series scanners that permits processing of up to 3/4" mounted originals.
MediaMAX was developed in response to demands from the reprographic market for a wide-format scanner that can handle mounted documents of varying thicknesses. MediaMAX is an upgrade feature for Tangent's sheetfeed scanners, the reprographics industry's most popular super-wide scanner. The release of MediaMAX will continue to accelerate Tangent's success in the color reprographic market which is projected to contribute more than $1 million in sales during the fourth quarter of 1998.
Until MediaMAX, Tangent led the industry in scanning documents up to 1/4" in thickness. However, requests from the reprographic market for increased flexibility caused Tangent to investigate the requirements for thick document scanning. After interviewing several specialists in the reprographic field, Tangent determined a 3/4" capability would not only address the majority of document requirements found in the field today, but also future requirements as well. MediaMAX provides precise control of mounted artwork as it moves through the scanner and holds the original at a constant height above the aperture resulting in an even image illumination. Post-processing, in Photoshop for example, becomes unnecessary.
In addition to the release of MediaMAX, Tangent has developed The Foamcore Kit, a throughput system for super-wide documents, which facilitates an easy to use and consistent delivery of rigid documents with precise image capture control, while protecting the original document from bending. The Foamcore Kit can be attached to both the 36" and 44" models of the sheetfeed scanner.
Dan Davis, Director of Technology for Blair Graphics in Santa Monica, California has contributed significant input into the development of MediaMAX. After testing MediaMAX for several weeks he stated, "In our business we must be prepared to receive artwork which may not be perfectly flat, or straight. So far, MediaMAX has exceeded my expectations for its ability to handle some of our more irregular originals. The engineering team at Tangent has again demonstrated their clear superiority in the design of large format scanning equipment."
Grif Griffin, President of Tangent Imaging Systems commented, "MediaMAX is just the beginning of an exciting product roll-out plan Tangent has planned for the fourth quarter of 1998. With input from partners such as Blair Graphics and others we remain dedicated to earning the right to be the wide-format scanner manufacturer of choice for the reprographic market. MediaMAX is a clear result of listening to market needs and responding with urgency."
Larry Osterwise, President and CEO of Scangraphics, Inc. stated that, "With MediaMax, Tangent continues to illustrate one of the basic tenants of successful businesses, 'Listen and respond to your customers needs and the customer will reward you with loyalty and increased business'. I'm delighted with the progress being made by Tangent Imaging Systems." |
