Indonesia's Inco says output below normal
Reuters Story - October 05, 1998 03:31
JAKARTA, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Indonesian mining firm PT International Nickel Indonesia (Inco) said on Monday nickel production was still below normal at its Sulawesi operations due to a lack of hydroelectric power.
"The company still cannot produce nickel at normal levels although rain has started falling in Soroako region (in central Sulawesi)," the company said in a statement.
Inco said the rain was not sufficient to run its hydroelectric power generators at normal rates.
The company is a subsidiary of Canadian miner Inco Ltd .
The firm said recently its nickel matte output should reach 80 million to 85 million lbs in 1998 against 71 million lbs last year.
Inco's output has been affected this year by a drought triggered by the El Nino weather phenomenon.
