I don't think he is 'trying to figure out what their main product is', any more that I am.

My impression has been, from speaking with the Company, that this opportunity emerged or become known only recently. Clearly the Company has, or feels they have, a solution to the previously referenced problem. Clearly DEC also believes the has a solution. Clearly that solution, as per the news release, is part of the "VCC technology".

It is my impression that GLBM could solve the problem (and solve other problems and provide other functionality) by installing a VCC. However, providing a replacement for Polycenter specifically is a 'piece' of the "VCC technology" that will work without a full-blown hardware-software install (e.g. a VCC). In other words, they can put it on a disk and mail it out. It is not really a new product, just a new way of carving up the VCC and selling a part of it.

The reason they would do this is because there are suddenly 35,000 machines that need this little 'slice' of VCC technology. So they want to be able to sell it to them without getting into all of the levels of approvals and whatnot that always attend a $250,000+ sale. Some customers will go straight to the whole VCC, some will do so later, some will never do so.

I hope that makes sense.
