Hi j.

>>1) DMT modems will cost alot more than CAP modems, and people
will be satisfied w/their CAP modems.

ADI, MOT, TI, Alcatel, and NEC are all developing DMT chips to compete in the market place. As far as I know there is only one source for the Globspan part. At the rate Globspan is changing the design, who would second source at this point? Sure DMT is more complex but once its implemented in silicon, cost is not an issue. As we can see from GTEs phase two trial, performance is important. As it stands now, Globspans new part (2.5Mbps) wouldn't qualify for phase two of the trial.

>>2) DSLAM's incorporating DMT will require much more power than
CAP, and the telco's won't go for them.

The Westel 1.5Mbps/64kbps modem consumes more power then the
Amati 8Mbps/800kps modem.
