MOT reported third quarter earnings after the close of 7 cents per share. The First Call estimate was 1 cent with a range of break even to 3 cents. The stock was trading at 40 on Instinet, up 1 7/16 from the 4 p.m. ET close. Could this be good news for VLSI as well? Even if VLSI doesn't supply MOT specifically, the market trends appear to be positive for VLSI.

Quoting from the press release,

"In Asia, sales and orders were significantly higher, while they were significantly lower in Pan America and slightly lower in Europe. GSM phone sales showed a strong sequential increase due to rapid acceptance of new products announced earlier in 1998, including the cd900 series phones."

Does VLSI supply MOT for the cd900 phones?

"Motorola announced a broad array of new wireless phones. Shipments of new digital StarTAC(R) phones for CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) began in early October and StarTAC phones for TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) are scheduled to begin shipping later in October. The new V-Series phones, weighing 2.7 ounces, include an analog version scheduled to ship in October, and digital GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) versions scheduled to ship in December."

Do you think VLSI is supplying MOT for any of these phones?
