Peter,

"pension funds"

I think the pension fund issue you raise is an interesting one; and one
I wish could could better answer at this point.

In the last month, I have seen repeated reports that "government pension funds" or "pension funds controlled by the government"
were active in the Nikkie markets; several times activity was noted
in the futures market on the long side.

I have tried to find out more information about the forgoing but have not yet been successful. Some of the questions that occur to me
are;

1. How many "government" pension funds exist?;
2. How are they funded?;
3. How are they currently invested? ( I tentatively assume a healthy
percentage is in the stock market but this assumption
may be dead wrong. Fact is, I don't know.)
4. What are the fiduciary duties of the manager/trustee of
the fund[s]?;
5. What are the liabilities of the fund[s]?; what payouts are
scheduled under what assumptions?

As you can see, numerous blank spots occur in my learning curve.
If and when I find out something of value and some reliability, I
will let you know. Perhaps others on this thread are well beyond me
on the learning curve and can be more helpful with respect
to the issues you raise.

Regards,

Tundra
