(NASDAQ:VLSI), today announced the appointment of Tom Tokos as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. Tokos comes from Syquest Technology, Inc., where he served as the Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary. He was VLSI's Assistant General Counsel and Assistant Secretary for two years from 1994 to 1996. His responsibilities will include supervision of all corporate and securities matters, litigation, commercial transactions, VLSI's patent program, technology licensing and general legal matters. He also will serve as VLSI's corporate secretary. "We are very happy to welcome Tom Tokos back to VLSI," said Alfred J. Stein, VLSI chairman and CEO. "His background and experience, especially his knowledge of intellectual property and patent law, will help us very much. Prior to first joining VLSI, Tokos was affiliated with a number of law firms specializing in intellectual property, patents and corporate transactions, including working as a partner at Keck, Mahin & Cate and as an associate attorney at Shearman & Sterling. Prior to attending law school, Tokos worked for Union Carbide Corporation as an R&D and Quality Control engineer. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and a Master's degree in Physics from Ohio University. He studied law at Georgetown University receiving both J.D. and LL.M. degrees. He has been admitted to practice in California, the District of Columbia, Maryland and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
