Midisoft Internet Media Player to be Branded by Internet-Only Radio Broadcaster KNAC
Business Wire - October 05, 1998 09:38
ISSAQUAH, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1998--Midisoft Corporation (OTC BB:MIDI) today announced that KNAC, an Internet-only live radio broadcaster of hard rock music, has entered into an agreement to private-label and promote Midisoft's Internet Media Player(tm) as an alternative streaming media playback application for its audio and video content.

The agreement calls for KNAC to prominently advertise the KNAC-branded version of the streaming client to its audience of dedicated "Pure Rock" listeners on its web site and via live, on-air announcements by KNAC DJs. Midisoft will include links to KNAC's audio streams on its trial and retail versions.

Midisoft's popular Internet Media Player is the first standalone streaming media playback solution implementing Microsoft Corporation's (Nasdaq:MSFT) Windows(R) Media Technology. It allows users to view or listen to high-quality audio and video programming delivered over the Internet to their PC's, and supports content encoded in Microsoft's NetShow(tm) or RealNetworks, Inc. (Nasdaq:RNWK) RealAudio(R) and RealVideo(R) formats. Internet Media Player includes dynamically updated direct-access links to streaming content from leading Internet broadcasters, and allows users to easily create links to their own Favorite streams and web sites.

KNAC pioneered the "Pure Rock" format and became known world-wide during its 10 year FM radio history which ended in 1995. It was among the first to give substantial commercial radio airplay to such acts as Metallica and Guns N' Roses. In February 1998, KNAC returned as an Internet radio station and has steadily grown its audience to over 60,000 unique listeners per month. KNAC can be tuned in 24 hours a day at www.knaclive.com.

According to Rob Jones, CEO of KNAC's parent company Internet Broadcast Solutions, the station was attracted to the Midisoft Internet Media Player for many reasons. "Midisoft's player has a really great interface that is incredibly easy to use, and provides a fast and simple way for our listeners to add their own links to web sites or streaming media content from artists or advertisers we expose them to," said Jones. "The Player's branding opportunities allow us to 'stay in front' of our audience even if they don't have KNAC tuned in." KNAC utilizes Internet Media Player's ability to dynamically update and deliver fresh content and banner information to keep listeners current on upcoming events like KNAC-sponsored concerts, promotions, and on-air interviews.

"Our focus is translating the FM business model to the Internet, and not on being strictly a web site," Jones continued. "Our logs show that listeners often times hit our audio feed prior to visiting the website. In many cases they visit our website after hearing something in the broadcast that interests them. Internet Media Player's unique interface provides us with the ability to offer advertisers increased exposure and a maximized visual presence through dynamically updated ad banners that coincide with their audio advertising campaigns at KNAC. We simply post a few configuration changes to a server and Internet Media Player automatically delivers the updates right to the desktop. It couldn't be much easier."

According to Brian Allodi, General Manager of Midisoft's Strategic Products Group, Midisoft intends to make branded versions of Internet Media Player readily available to streaming media content and tools developers, broadcasters, OEMs, ISPs and corporate customers. "We fully expect that streaming will become the medium of choice for delivering high-quality and engaging audio/video content," said Allodi. "As that takes hold, we believe content developers and broadcasters will see the tremendous value that Internet Media Player offers as a streaming client application. Our application provides them not only with the ability to easily populate the Player with their content, but also opens up opportunities to provide additional programming, advertising and other dynamically loaded information in the banner space. This level of branding, functionality and configurability isn't available today from competing players."

KNAC listeners can download a free, fully-functional 30 Day Trial version of the KNAC-branded Internet Media Player by visiting the KNAC web site. The trial edition can be converted to an unrestricted version for only $12.95 anytime during or after the trial period.
