Quarter/6 Months Results
EL PASO, Texas, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Helen of Troy Ltd. (Nasdaq: HELE - news), designer,
developer and worldwide marketer of brand-name personal care products, today reported record
sales and earnings for the second quarter and six months ended Aug. 31, 1998.
Second quarter net income rose 28 percent, to a record $7,544,000 or 26 cents per diluted share,
from $5,897,000 or 21 cents per diluted share for the same quarter a year earlier. Second quarter
sales were a record $72,162,000, up 18 percent from sales of $60,929,000 for the like period of
the prior year. Net income for the first half increased 31 percent, to $12,380,000 or 42 cents per
diluted share from $9,449,000 or 33 cents per diluted share in the comparable period last year. First
half sales climbed 20 percent to a record $136,298,000 from sales of $113,356,000 for last year's
first half.
