You play BB stocks for the following reason:

1) MMs are small in number and can collude explicitly or implicitly. they could illegally trade info. or could use their bid/ask prices and spread to send messages to one another.

2) us small investors cannot stay organized under the stress of MM games, bashers, shorters, etc. the only thing that keeps things in check is the SEC. i know firsthand that countries with stringent and enforced laws operate more orderly than ones without. the BB world is one more of deception as the SEC does not have as stringent as rules for these companies.

3) people are greedy and are in penny stocks to get rich quick. the lack of info. on these companies makes them more risky and increases the potential return. where else do comanies go from 30-cents to $8 in a few months (2500% or so). for this reason, people take profits and move on and are less of the investing mindset.

so, can BB stocks be played (legally and ethically). i still do not know. but, i agree, that investing in these companies is not a good move. why bet your future on a company that is too poor or too secretive to publish financial statements

as for reasons to hide info.- all reporting companies have to explain in detail their acquisition costs, strategies, earnings, sources of funding, etc. many of these companies seem to do just fine that way and do not see the disclosure as a real competitive advantage from the view of not informing competitors, or whatever. the fact is that honest companies that can execute, will report and see their stock price appreciate. with this appreciation, they will issue more shares and use those funds to make sound, positive NPV projects....but, it all start with honesty to investors.
