Hi, Michael.

It seems to me the preceive problem is two-fold. One is whether the products are better and secondly, whether they can be sold.

The "Myth vs. Reality" was an excellant piece. If others would like to refute it, please do so, but use hard facts and current existing equipment/software comparisons.

Yet, there are abundant stories of the better product, engineer-wise, going down in flames, because the poor marketing plan (not getting it to be the standard) or just lousy execution (i.e. salesmanship).

While technology is at a faster and faster pace, from what I've read here and elsewhere, SGI has pulled back ahead of the PC pack with O2. But, it must match the hype of others (i.e. WINTEL), which your post recognizes. (Does the marketing team?)

Finally, the strategies developed must be known to all employees of SGI to avoid duplication or isolation. Being the high priced solution provider (to high price problems) is okay, provided that there is the rapid continuous push-down of the older technology into new, cheaper and bigger markets. The Sony Playstation and N64 chip designs, I think, are good examples of this. Like with everything else, more must be done along those lines.

Happy Holidays.

Mat.
