PRI Automation's Interval Logic Subsidiary Ships High-Performance Advanced Planning Software to LSI Logic

LSI's Gresham, Ore., Facility Will Use Software to Optimize Fab Productivity

October 6, 1998 12:00 PM

BILLERICA, Mass., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Interval Logic Corporation, a subsidiary of semiconductor factory automation leader PRI Automation, Inc. (PRIA), announced today that it has shipped its Leverage(TM) for Planning software solution to LSI for use in their new 200mm-wafer semiconductor manufacturing facility (fab) in Gresham, Ore.

Leverage for Planning is specifically designed to meet the demanding capacity planning requirements of the semiconductor industry by allowing a semiconductor manufacturer to generate a full production plan that aligns production targets with manufacturing capacity in seconds instead of hours. Now for the first time, manufacturers can explore alternative production plans that solve capacity problems based on their strategic business objectives. The unparalleled speed of Leverage for Planning, plus its ability to analyze a wide variety of "what if" scenarios, allows manufacturers to optimize their production operations.

"With Interval Logic's Leverage for Planning software, LSI Logic now has a powerful capacity planning tool that can help us generate the best possible production plan based on our unique business goals," said Steve Benson, senior director, global manufacturing systems for LSI Logic. "LSI chose Leverage for Planning for the speed with which it is able to address our total production capacity planning requirements and for its scalability to meet our needs in the future."

"Interval Logic and PRI Automation are committed to helping semiconductor manufacturers optimize the entire semiconductor manufacturing process and maximize throughput by fundamentally changing the way planning and scheduling are performed," said Don Rosenthal, president of Interval Logic. "LSI Logic's decision to use Leverage for Planning is a testimony to both the robustness of the technology and its ability to solve real business requirements by helping customers improve their productivity."

Leverage for Planning is a key component of LSI's CIM architectural strategy designed to automate their new state-of-the art fab in Gresham. Beginning in November, LSI will be adding Interval Logic's Leverage(TM) for Scheduling, a software tool that gives semiconductor manufacturers the ability to quickly schedule and reschedule work-in-process in response to real-time shop floor events. When integrated within the manufacturing environment, both Leverage for Planning and Leverage for Scheduling give manufacturers the ability to generate the optimal capacity plan and then create the most efficient work-flow schedule to meet the targets defined by the plan. The benefit is better utilization of assets through improved manufacturing efficiencies. In addition to the Leverage product suite, LSI has installed PRI's full factory automation system including pod stockers, an AeroTrak(TM) overhead monorail system and an automated reticle management system.
