George,

I feel like I was eavesdropping on you conversation. I purchased 4500 shares on Dec 23. I too have followed the options trading. Essentially, options are a bet. It gives a person the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a stock a specific price. In the case of Borland, the options prices are 5, 7.5, 10, 12.5, 15, 17.5 20 dollars. The "open" interest is a gauge of where the "bets" are being placed. For January the "bets" are heavily placed on buying and selling Borland stock at $7.5 with very heavy bets that it will be valued at 10+ dollars. Some individuals are betting the stock will hit $20, in fact, more people are betting that the stock will hit 20 than 10-17.5, If this happens, it will be an great payoff. People are betting on the 3 new products that will be released in January. The reviews have been excellent.

Hope this helps

Edward
