Alex,

The delineation you provided between science and theistic Truths is precisely why I sought your opinion.

A definition of terms is critical to a fruitful discussion, and I admit to being simplistic in my definition of atheism. I am amenable to an expansion of my definition once someone from the atheist camp is willing to provide more detail on the construct of their belief system--if only their personal construct--beyond the disbelief in a deity. I acknowledge that atheism is not institutionalized, but for the matter of this discussion, I'd gladly accept one atheist's considered definition.

I make science the atheist's god surrogate because I have yet to be educated on what else atheist Truth is founded upon. What, rather than science, can provide the theoretical framework which constitutes their perception of reality? Without science, it seems atheists are left to the existentialist/nihilist modality which precludes anyshared Truths, leaving us with a world in which we have billions of Truths (each decided by the individual) no common moral and ethical vocabulary, and no sense of a cosmology.

Rick
