<<The difference today is the partisanship>>

Actually, those same shows have been trying to disabuse people of the notion that the hearings were bipartisan at the beginning. The exact same debates and votes were made in the Judiciary Committee during Watergate as we are seeing now, including the ones on limiting the investigations, setting a time limit and giving appropriate levels of support to the minority party. For example of the 100+ staff positions during Watergate, less than a dozen were set aside for the minority party. Also, the votes were straight party line back then too.

It changed when one or two senior Republicans started asking the "what did he know and when did he know it" questions. Eventually, they came to put the country first, and the process became bipartisan, but only after they had gone through the fact finding process and the procedural issues we are currently going through.

Even the arguments being used to support Clinton were used back then to support Nixon.

By the way, I am not comparing the two "crimes", only the process and the political environment.
