There are many ways to spin this deal. Here are a few for starters.

--Bertelsmann and Barnes & Noble teaming up is definitely bad for AMZN.

--Bertelsmann getting 50% of BKS.com for $200 million implies a total value of $400 million for the company. Is AMZN really worth 15 times BKS.com? I don't think so.

--BKS.com wasn't going to raise $200 million in cash from an IPO. More cash the better for killing AMZN.

--Would Bertelsmann take such a large stake in BKS.com if it wasn't making serious inroads against AMZN? I don't think so.

I'll let someone like William put a positive spin on this announcement. I'm sure he'll find one.
