Paul,
re: " The bigger question is if the new parts are competitive and if NSM has customers for them."
What is your best guess?
Obviously, it is going to be an uphill battle. The share price reflects that.
Unfortunatelly, for a lowly shareholder like myself, there are very few facts available on which to base a somewhat informed opinion. So all I am left with is really a guess.
My guess is, that all the engineers and designers at Cyrix and NSM must have been doing something over last year and a half. It doesn't seem realistic that all that happened in this time was an increase in clock speed from 188 MHz to 225 MHz for MII and from 200 MHz to 233 MHz for MediaGX.
If that was the case, everyone would know that the whole CPU effort was doomed, and NSM would dump it to save their lives.
But since I see no hesitation about the MXi and PCOAC, I believe that NSM internally knows they will have a competitive product.
Having said that, the environment for selling CPUs is going to get even tougher to succeed. There will be a glut of chips. Intel is seeing some erosion of market share, and under normal circumstances, it would get worse (for Intel).
So my guess at the outcome of next calendar year depends on Intel's ability to move the game from the ballpark where there market share is eroding to a new ballpark, where they are the only team (with Karmai KNI).
So the fortune and misfortune of all the players will depend on Intel's ability to persuade public that KNI is essential.
