Alex,

I think Intel realizes that not everyone is going to be demanding the latest and greatest. Before, everyone was. That's why Intel's segmenting the market:

- Low-cost, high-volume processors for those who just want to surf the Internet.

- Faster and faster processors for customers who want their servers to handle bigger transaction loads and their workstations to run their simulations faster.

- Cheap-n-fast processors for those crazy guys who want nothing less than Quake II to run at 60 frames-per-second.

Intel will still push the technology envelope and follow Moore's Law well into the next millenium. This will allow Intel to keep producing faster processors to those who want them. To those who don't need faster processors, this same technological push will also allow Intel to drive costs down so that these customers can buy their low-end processors at lower prices.
